Uniting with the sacrifice of Christ
It is not at all a question of “paying” for the Mass because the Mass has no price, it asks us to offer ourselves in communion with Jesus.
FOR THE DEAD
"He had this expiatory sacrifice made for the dead, so that they might be freed from their sin" (2M 12:45). By having the sacrifice of the Mass celebrated for the dead, the faithful ask Christ to apply to them the grace of his Salvation, eternal rest, the healing of the family tree,....
